The Hornet Buzz was "born" in January of 2012. Amy Wesner, the computer lab teacher at Davenport, selected 15 fourth grade students with the help of the fourth grade teachers. The students were put into teams with different segments to cover. They were expected to be responsible and take photos and video of events happening around the school, and then use Microsoft Movie Maker to put their photos, videos, and narration together to create their segments.
The Hornet Buzz stayed strong and in January of 2013, Maggie Seim, a Kindergarten teacher at Davenport, joined Mrs. Wesner in leading the News Team. Over the years we have added new segments, allowed more students on the team, and try to make it better every year! In January of 2015, with the addition of Chromebooks at Davenport, we switched from using Microsoft Movie Maker to using a Google friendly video creator called WeVideo. Using WeVideo allowed us to work collaboratively and also bring all of the students work onto the web where it could easily be shared.
With technology being ever-changing, the Hornet Buzz will continue to change as well. We hope to continue this tradition for many more years. Please don't hesitate to send us comments, suggestions, or praises. We'd love to hear from you!!!
